Valdemarsvik guest in Cuccaro in memory of the great Liedholm
CUCCARO
The distance between Cuccaro and Valdemarsvik (Sweden) is 2065 km, with inhabitants, cultures and customs geographically distant from each other but united by the figure of a great sportsman and man: Nils Liedholm who was born in Valdemarsvik but who chose to live in Cuccaro Monferrato. The two countries have decided to overcome this geographical distance with a big virtual embrace, through the twinning agreement for the creation of a relationship of European friendship, which was signed for the first time on 18 October 2009 at the Town Hall of Cuccaro Monferrato by the mayor of the Monferrato town Fabio Bellinaso and the mayor of Valdemarsvik Torvald Karlsson, which was followed by confirmation in Sweden on the occasion of the Nils Liedholm Cup 1130 June 2012. The agreement is based on the historic bond that unites the two municipalities in the figure of Nils Liedholm. This agreement must promote all forms of social relations between the municipalities such as in the economic, associative and cultural fields. The twinning between Valdemarsvik and Cuccaro is therefore a dynamic and concrete factor that over time has developed various initiatives and meetings between the two countries. So on Wednesday 6th April the Valdemarsvik football team arrives in Monferrato, which will carry out 3 days of pre-season athletic training, which has yet to begin, in which they play in the category that would correspond to our ‘Excellence’; that is, the same one that sees some teams from our territory involved, including Casale, Valenzana Mado, LG Trino. The guest team will stay from 6th to 10th April, a group of 35 people including Roger Ostling (tournament manager N. Liedholm in Sweden) and Goran Trysberg (tourism manager of the Valdemarsvik Municipality), both always present at the N. Liedholm Fair Play Award which has been held for 4 years in Cuccaro in the Liedholm Winery. The sports training will take place in San Salvatore Monferrato, on the football fields of Monferrato, a team that participated in 2015 in the International Youth Tournament dedicated to Nils Liedholm that has been held for a decade in Valdemarsvik. Two friendly matches between the two teams are also planned.
